Actor

Manager

Goal

The manager wishes to begin a new official documentation project to address a currently unmet documentation need.

Description

First the manager determines that their is an important unmet need. Then the manager determines that it is better to create a new documentation project rather than bolstering an existing project (for example by adding a new chapter to the Zope book).

At this point the manager creates a new documentation project in the fishbowl.

Now they must:

  1. Identify the audience and the audience's need.
  2. Determine topic and scope, taking care to minimize overlap between this project and other existing ones.
  3. Survey related official and community documentation looking for source material and potential authors.
  4. Create an outline.
  5. Staff the project by locating authors and editors.
  6. Decide authoring procedures.
  7. Decide delivery procedures.
  8. Decide maintenance procedures.

All this information should be recorded in the fishbowl so that reviewers can comment, contribute, and see how far along the project is and what needs to be done if they want to help out.

By performing this work in the open and responding to reviewer comments the manager can improve the project and potentially locate authors and editors from the ranks of the reviewers who help craft the project.

The manager is responsible for making sure that reviewer comments and contributions are addressed.
