Zope 2.7

This is the home page for the Zope 2.7 project. Zope 2.7 is the next Zope feature release.

How does this relate to the "Zope 2.7" project that I heard about in 2002? It doesn't. If you heard anything about Zope 2.7 before November 2002, what you heard was wrong :^) That project was an effort to work on some post-2.6 features before 2.6 came out, which caused a fair amount of confusion. That effort is no longer going on. Any goals from that previous effort that need to go into the next Zope feature release need to be added to the current 2.7 plan (below).

Timeframe: Zope 2.7 was tentatively planned to be released in Q1 2003, but is now likely to arrive in Q1 2004. Having learned a lesson during the 2.6 release cycle about being too ambitious, we (the zope-coders community as a whole) are going to need be a little more strict this time about scope, commitments and deadlines.

The goal for this release is to keep the number of proposals on the plan small and ensure that progress is continuing on everything in the plan. To help achieve this, nothing will go on the plan until it has a champion who has committed to doing all of the work (including documentation) outlined in the proposal.

We would like to plan for the first 2.7 alpha release on Feb. 10 2003. We didn't make it, though.

Current Status: I've updated the ProposedFeatures plan to include only those proposals that have been written up to some degree and that have a champion who has volunteered to do the work by Feb 10. Note that I have not carried over unfinished proposals from the 2.6 plan by default (these can be re-added if the 2.7 time frame is workable for the authors). The proposal authors are currently working on the proposed new features in the plan.
