i18n (Internationalization) products are confusing. Let's make a roadmap.
- Localizer
- supports translation of python code and DTML. Used by Plone 1. Works in any zope site.
- TranslationService
- adds page template support to Localizer. Used by CPS.
- PlacelessTranslationService
- newer i18n product, supports translation of page templates, python code and DTML (basic). Used by Plone 2. Any zope site.
- I18NLayer
- supports multilingual content objects. I18NLayer allows to have a layer wrapping any content piece, allowing you to have translated content (a separate new object will provide the content in any new language). CMF/Plone sites only.
- I18NFolder
- since I18NLayer does not support multilingual folders (yet), I18NFolder fills the gap by providing a way to translate simple folders (Title and Description of the folder are simply provided in the different languages you may want to have). CMF/Plone only.
- PloneLanguageTool
- provides a language chooser for Plone.
- ZBabel
- an older product supporting translation of DTML. Any zope site.
- CJKSplitter
- adds Chinese, Japanese and Korean searching support to ZCTextIndex.
- LinguaPlone
- LinguaPlone aims to be the multilingual/translation solution for Plone.
