This page tries to give an up to date view of the various Zope developments in the Zope community.
I got fed up about searching for information on release schedules, so I decided to create this page (and I will try to maintain it).
Zope releases will speedup if people use [ZopeSandBox]?es and use ZopeContinuousIntegration?.
This page discusses:
- Zope 2
- Zope X3
- CMF
- New Zope.org (NZO)
Roadmap information for Zope products suchs as Plone and Zwiki is also available on the ZopeProductsRoadmap? page.
Zope 2.x (Zope stable) | Zope X3 (Zope R&D) |
|---|---|
|
The latest stable version of Zope 2 is Zope 2.7.5
The SVN trunk will become Zope 2.8. Zope 2.7 was planned to be released in Q1 2003. Zope 2.7.0beta1 is released (July 21th). No date has been set for Zope 2.7 final. In 2.7 Berkely storage will be added. Python 2.2.3 will be the required platform for Zope 2.7. Zope 2.7 compiles and starts up fine with Python 2.3 but there are a bunch of unittests failing, so it's not recommended. |
A stable version of Zope 3 (dubbed Zope 3.0) is targeted for release in February 2004. It will provide migration tools for Zope 2 applications and content. Given the narrowing gap between Zope 2 and Zope 3 over the coming year, the transition will be probably be less painful than some assume. Zope3 requires Python 2.3.2 or later (PyXML? 0.8.1 or higher is not required anymore as it is in python2.3 I think). Current state of Zope 3 CVS: ? Latest release: ZopeX3-0.0m4 Stephan Richter and others are currently creating a Zwiki for Zope3 See also: Zope 3 newsletter: #9, #8, #7 and the Zope 3 wiki (especially the Zope3 roadmap). |

Other info
- Python 2.3 (final) was released on July 29, 2003, and will be shipped with the new Mac OS X. You might want to wait for 2.3.1 if you're new to Python and plan to use IDLE on Windows machines with easily mis-triggered "personal firewalls", or if you're using Python in a mission-critical application.

- Python PEP 283: Python 2.3 Release Schedule (Feb 27th). Python 2.3 final release is expected July 2003
