zopewiki announcement --simon, Thu, 08 Apr 2004 10:00:00 -0700 reply
Sent to the zope, zope-announce and zwiki lists on april 4:

 Hi all,

 I've set up a general-purpose Zope wiki at http://zopewiki.org .
 The blurb says:

"This is a public wiki site for Zope , the open source web application
server. Zope documentation has historically been scattered and hard to
update. zopewiki.org aims to provide a single, simple, user-owned Zope
documentation site to tie it all together."

I have been wanting something like this for some time. At one time I
thought it had to be on zope.org, but not now. It's time to stick my own
neck out and risk public humiliation. I hope you'll all get involved and
we can fix this accursed zope documentation problem. :)

site outage --simon, Tue, 13 Apr 2004 09:29:23 -0700 reply
Site has been down twice due to zope filling hard memory quota. We may have a few more of these, please bear with me while I work out a good setup for this new server. I had installed AutoLance after the first, still experimenting.

apache ProxyRequests? disabled -- Thu, 15 Apr 2004 18:57:17 -0700 reply
I've removed ProxyRequests On from apache's config, to avoid being listed as an open proxy at http://spamblock.outblaze.com . Hopefully this will not prevent apache from doing image caching on this site.

memory upgrade --simon, Sat, 24 Apr 2004 08:20:57 -0700 reply
This server's memory has been doubled. (If you're wondering: 256M guaranteed, and up to 512M unreliable for spikes.)

site was down --simon, Sat, 24 Apr 2004 08:23:58 -0700 reply
this morning due to something I've never seen before - my memusage external method has broken, muttering about "None" and "could not find module". Everything looks fine. Odd. The skin will now keep working in this situation.

site outage --simon, Thu, 29 Apr 2004 07:45:02 -0700 reply
Apache went zombie for a while.. "server reached MaxClients? setting" right after startup.

outages continue --simon, Fri, 30 Apr 2004 10:18:41 -0700 reply
Each morning, lately, the same thing - zope hung, doing nothing. I don't think it's apache after all. A zope restart usually fixes it. I am slightly bored with this kind of thing just now..

zopewiki news -- Mon, 05 Jul 2004 10:18:58 -0700 reply
I've been meaning to post this for a while.. here's a quick progress report for http://zopewiki.org so far.

April: good initial activity, about half a dozen editors

May: quiet, basically no editors other than me; minor downtime

June: steady low edit & new editor rate; noticeable downtime due to zope hangs due to zpydoc triggering a python/extension class bug, now worked around

I think people are finding the site useful. I certainly am. I need to set up some access stats.

http://zopewiki.org/ZopeWikiStats currently shows 345 pages, 86 of them rated, of which 16 have 2 or more votes. 22 sites and 60 products have pages.

Products have been grouped into rough categories which seems to be helpful, see http://zopewiki.org/ZopeProduct .

An experimental all pages index has been added to the front page.

The footer was fixed so that it shows random quotes and tips from various pages.

http://zopewiki.org/Mail lists is quite useful for finding things in the lists.

Open site issues (see http://zwiki.org/FilterIssues/filterissues?sort_on=severity_index&titlesearch=&textsearch=&category%3Alist=zwiki.org&category%3Alist=zopewiki.org&status%3Alist=open&status%3Alist=pending ):

  • except in minimal mode, page load times are a little slower than they should be.
  • the site restarts about once a day to work around an unknown memory leak. The first page load or two after a restart will be rather slow.

Open questions: what impact is the site having; how to integrate better with other sites/irc/etc.

Site announcements are found at http://zopewiki.org/ZopeWikiNews ; the latest post also appears on the front page.

http://zopewiki.org/ZopeWikiDiscussion has been quiet - most discussion takes place on #zope. I have not yet enabled any mail features.

It's your wiki.. input welcome.

Best, -Simon

You can now subscribe to zopewiki to receive notification of all edits, renames, deletes etc. These are a bit more precise than the edits RSS feed. Filter into a folder to keep an eye on what's going on.

this is a great feature - i subscribed the whole wiki with my gmail account, in gmail created a filter (Matches: from:(dontreply@zopewiki.org); Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "zopewiki.org") and now have a fine archive of all future zopewiki.org changes, archived under label zopewiki.org - thanks a bunch
